The Key To Family Photos With Smiling Kids

Hey there, amazing families! Abigail here from Omni Photography, ready to share some secrets on turning your family photo session into a playground of joy for your little ones.

We all know that getting kids to stay still for photos can be like herding cats. But what if I told you that the key to capturing those priceless moments is actually much simpler than you think? Let’s dive into how we can make your family photo session a fun-filled adventure, ensuring we capture genuine smiles and laughter along the way while making fun memories!💖

Games:

What kid doesn't LOVE games? Games are one of my favorite ways to get children to interact with each other and have fun! For younger, and older kids. Here are some fun games you can use at your next family photo session:

Run Around Mom and Dad:

One of my all-time favorite games to play during a session is "Run Around Mom and Dad!" It’s simple: have your kids run circles around you while you both stand or sit close together. This not only burns off some of their endless energy but also brings out the most heartwarming laughter and smiles from everyone kids and parents.

Unleash the Tickle Monster:

Who doesn’t love a good tickle fest? Whisper to your kids that you’re going to unleash the Tickle Monster and watch their eyes light up with excitement. The anticipation alone

gets them giggling, and once the tickling starts, those authentic smiles and belly laughs are impossible to miss. This is the perfect moment for your photographer to get some close-up candid shots of your beautiful family.

Bump Your Sibling Over (Gently!):

A little bit of sibling rivalry can be fun, especially when it’s all in the name of good fun. “Bump Your Sibling Over” is a game where kids gently bump into each other, trying to knock each other off balance. It’s a controlled way to let them be a bit rough, like they naturally are, resulting in some fantastic action shots and genuine laughter. (Teenage boys always have a good time with this one!)

Follow the Leader:

Turn the photo session into a mini adventure with "Follow the Leader." Have one child or parent lead the way, with the rest of the family following behind. This game always leads to beautiful candid photos of your family focusing on one another, and the beauty of your environment. It’s a great way to keep the kids engaged, moving, and happy.

Rewards:

Most kids love a reward for doing something well. And rewards definitely apply to photo sessions! Here are some simple reward ideas to get your younger and older children excited for a family photoshoot.

Snacks:

Most kids have a favorite snack they enjoy. From fresh fruit to crackers, fruit snacks, yogurt, or veggies. Bring some snacks your kiddos can eat during and after your photo session. This will help keep your kids calm and occupied.

After Photoshoot Activity:

Promise your kids something fun to do after your session! A trip to the park, bowling, or movies can be a fun activity, Let your kids know this is a reward for doing so well at your family session! For older kids, you can let them do something fun with friends, or even give them some money to do something extra special.
